Yoga Teacher Training Information Session

Interested in becoming a yoga teacher? There’s many paths, many teachers, many ways to begin the process of becoming a teacher of yoga, but it all starts with you. It starts with your practice, your willingness and readiness to commit to your own learning. Much of a 200hour teacher training is learning how to navigate a dedicated and consistent practice of learning while maintaining relationships and focusing much of your energy on the relationship with your Self.

You will leave our program with all the tools necessary to lead an intelligent and powerful asana class, and a much more profound understanding of your own practice and intentions. Many of us feel called to the practice of yoga and for a while, just going off of the intention of “it feels good” and the instant results of mobility and strength are what keep us coming back. But in time, you may find yourself wondering what truly is underneath all of these movements and why does it feel so good? That’s what we dig into. The history, culture, philosophy of this lifestyle because understanding where and why it all came about makes it much easier to share it with others!

Ask questions, get all the details on cost, timeline, and expectations.

Adjustments in Yoga : Advancing the Conversation

Adjustments in Yoga : Advancing the Conversation

The practice of yoga is a living and breathing tradition. As our knowledge of anatomy and movement evolve, the way that we teach our students through verbal cuing and physical touch needs to rise to meet the evolution. In this immersion, we will delve into the many dimensions of how we as educators can use all of the tools at our disposal, including physical adjustments, to clearly and safely convey our messages. We can use our voices, our energy, our sequencing, our philosophical rhetoric and also when appropriate, our hands. Throughout the weekend, my intention for students is to leave with these four qualities when it comes to assisting:

KNOWLEDGE: To acquire the skills necessary to administer a variety of solid, useful and safe adjustments. Also, that you are able to give prescriptive and individualised assists instead of mechanical rote adjustments.

CONFIDENCE: Our energy as a teacher is easily read by our students through our assists. If there is uncertainty and nervousness behind the adjustment, the student will immediately receive that energy. It is imperative that when we touch our students we bring with that touch a clear sense of confidence and clarity to build a relationship of trust.

CLARITY: This is in all things assisting. We discuss when to assist, when not to assist How deep. How Firm. How Long. Why? Giselle Mari, a Jivamukti teacher, told me once that an assist should never be distracting, confusing, annoying or susceptible to misinterpretation. A high standard to hold ourselves to, for sure, but our students deserve that clarity.

COMPASSION: In our discussion of the alignment and anatomy of each posture, we will discuss in depth that when we assist, we are assisting our students into the fullest expression of their version of the pose. We bring deep compassion into our assisting, understanding that every body will express a different variation of the asana, and our job is to keep them safe while we guide them deeper into their practice, not always deeper into their posture.

**Current YTT’s will receive Continuing Education hours through the Yoga Alliance.

We will practice restorative inversions, headstands, forearm stands, and handstands. You will walk away with skills and drills to practice on your own so that the work continues beyond our series calendar.

Melanie Fawer has studied classical yoga for more than two decades and has found that there is no better tool than Ashtanga yoga for understanding the mechanics of the body, healing the body and cultivating inner calm. Trained under the tutelage of renowned yoga master, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois of Mysore, India for fifteen years, Melanie holds Certification from Jois, the highest honor in Ashtanga yoga. Feel free to ask anything about the Ashtanga system, Melanie's experience spanning more than 20 years in the yoga biz, traveling to India to study & learn, the future of yoga, specific postures within the system, breath work, cultivating a practice with consistency & longevity, and questions on the future of Ashtanga Yoga with Lotus Yoga in Winston-Salem!
